The chaos is wacky and the. mirth, contagious! David Glyn-Jones leads the frolic, uproariously supported by Mark Bolton, Jane Logie, Gregory Reid and Brenda Robins of West Vancouver. Things that crawl out from under rocks By PAT RICH Once upon a time, long ago and far away there was a group called Hermans Hermits lead by a young bright-faced innocent in- dividual called Peter Noone. The group gave the world such memorable teenybopper tunes as “Mrs Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter,” and ‘No Milk Today’ (“No milk today my love has gone away. It wasn't always so, we turned night in to day ...”). Sometime iw the carly 60’s the group vanished, along with Noonc. Wednesday night Noone resurfaced im Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom. as young looking as ever, with a group called ‘The Trem. blers’. The obvious question was, what a noice boy hke Peter Noone was doing 9 a place like the Commodore, opening for Iggy Pop. Do not relax your guard ob mothers of the North Shore, punk rock 1s not quite dead, and many strange and nasty things crawled out of dccp holes Wednesday to sec the grandfather of punk But morc of that later The Tremblers played good, loud consistent: rock and roll The songs Noone sings haven't increased a great decal in profundity since the days of Hermans Hermits as they belted out such songs as ‘TM be taking her out tonight and ‘She was something clsc | Good loud musk but nothing spectacular If you wanted spec tac les. you only had to look at the audhicnce The days of the saicty pan through the car and the razor blade through the osc are long gone Punk after four year bas mellowed and minced with modish New Wave look But there were stall chough concentration «amp hamrstylics and shiny pointy cbothes to leave ltthe doubt that you were among the children of the Sex Pistols. Fun kids, who like to urinate in the washroom sink and for whom the Com- modore hired at least six rather large muscular types to control. And they were all there to see Iggy Pop and to hear him tell them that they were “more boring than television.” One does not dance to Iggy Pop. One does not even pogo. One just stands and lets the very loud powerful violent music seep through the pores and corrupt the soul. The main thought that came from watching Iggy as he androgynously bounced across the stage, was that he should never be booked to play a glass ballroom where delicate elven types speak in hushed crystalline tones. Iggy has definite appeal but only to those with twisted jangled minds who have more than blood coursing through theu veins when they listen to him. If you yearn for Romantic Dance Music, you'll BRENDA ROBINS and David Glyn-Jones have an interesting “arrangement” in Neil Simon's comedy “The Good Doctor” playing at Stage 33 through November. nr* Les * x Bannieres SHOW LOUNGE Presents...
