A SOGGY START to the sixth annual Garibaldi Bicycle race didn’t deter the competitors as they set off from Park Royal Shopping Centre on Saturday. (Terry Peters photo) THREE WINS > Another good weekend for North Shore cricketers North Shore Cricket Club had three more wins over the weckend. On Saturday at Norgate Park the first XI had an overwhelming victory over U.B.C. Occasionals | North Shore batted first and despite being two wickets down for only 15 runs, the score advanced to 110 before the next wicket fell: Bill Sims was caught at 39 One run later Vas Gumaratna's fine innings of 58 ended with a catch in the deep on-ficld Jim Mitchell (39 not out) and Bill Price (28 not out) then carried the score ahead until North Shore declared e problems of own at 179 for 5S. U.B.C. lost their first two wickets without scoring. Several more wickets toppled and a draw became the only practicable goal for U.B.C. but North Shore then set a very tight field and the tactics paid off. Amba Sharma continued to take wickets, ending with five for 12 runs, while Sims took three more from the other end for only cight runs U! BC were all out for 32, giving North Shore a win by 147 runs On Sunday the second XI batted first against Juniors II on Lower Brockton. Good performances were put in by North Shore's captain, Norm Stewart (25), Ashwani Dutta(18) and Chico Sahota (17), as the North Shore were all out for 105. * Jumors lost their first three wickets at six runs and were all out for 54, giving North Shore a win by ‘1 runs. Dutta took three wickets for 12 runs, Hira four for 12, and Stewart two for 20 Meanwhile on Upper Brockton the first team was competing in the quarter finals for the Coronation Challenge Cup. against Wescan, who batted first to a substantial total of 134 all out. Solomon Fleary scored 66 and Mike Alexander 20. Bill Sims, bowling for North Shore took three wickets for 18 runs and Gary Collins got three for 22. North Shore lost their first wicket for no score, the next at two, and the third at 13.
