manufacture. of
edibaubles; and a high
school grad with a
passion for theatre.
What do these three
young people have in
common?

The answer, for this
summer at least, is puppets:
the three together make up
the Rainbow Theatre
Players, a group sponsored
by and working out of the
North Wancouver District
Library.

Funded by a grant from
the federal summer youth
employment program, the
players will be taking their
puppet shows into the
community, bringing the

before handing over the show to thelr proteges. Members of the Rainbow Players
sponsored by North Van District Library, they're entertaining North Van youngsters
throughout the summer in shopping malls, libraries, daycare centres and parks.

Nine years ago the

Now the company
produces up to 5.000 baby
carmers a month from a
modern plant located near
False Creek, and the con-
cept received an extra boost
recently when Academy
Award winning actress
Meryl Streep was
photographed in a US.
magazine toting her then
two-month old son Henry in
one of the carriers.

Sales have grown steadily
without any advertising on
the part of Sheri-Lou Baby
Products Lid., the company
making Snugli for Canada,
Australia and New Zealand.

Word of mouth is so en-
thusiastic that letters
frequently come in from as
far away as Thailand and
Kuwait; and sales within
Canada are equally brisk in
Toronto and Frobisher Bay

It's a far cry from Snugh's
modest beginnings when
Mary and Dean = Snyder
obtained the rights to
manufacture the baby
carmer in Canada Done as
piece work, the Snugh often
travelled from West Van-
couver to Surrey and points
in «between by everything
from van to rowboat before
it was ready for shipping

There are several unique
features that caploin the
demand tor Snugh,  par-
ticularly in view of the high
cost of equipping baby and

the ever-increasing mobility
of young mothers.

The soft fabric carrier (in
corduroy or seersucker) can
be used from birth because

a nursing sling And as the
baby grows, the release of
tucks and darts ac-
commodates a child through
age two with equal comfort

simply switch the carrier to
their backs

Enthusiasm for the Snugh
is not limited to new
mothers. Several hospitals
and clinics in Canada, the
United States and Austraha

are using Snugli to provide a
much-needed snuggle for
premature infants, sick
babies, and babies whose
mothers are undergoing
medical treatment.

The Vancouver firm has
just launched a companion
product to the Snugli for
mothers and babies on the
