Despite concern that the village atmosphere ultimately may be damaged, council, ap- proved the development permit for 2490-96 Marine Drive at the corner of 25th Street. The lone dissenter, Aider- man David Finlay argued “we'll never see another two- storey building again if this is allowed to go ... we may as well throw away the two- storey limitation.” Finlay was not critical of the architect’s design, but he feared the implications the project will have for future development in Dundarave. Alderman John Hum- phries also asked _ for assurances that such development would not become a trend in_ the village, but said he was “not against” the project and voted in favor of awarding the permit. All Council members appeared impressed with architect A.J. Mudry’s design for the two-storey commercial building with a third storey residential penthouse containing two dwelling units. The proposal complies with C-2 zone regulations with the exception of the number of storeys. The bylaw limits buildings to 35 feet and two storeys, whereas the planned building will be 35 feet with three storeys. Senior planner S.J.
