EVERY SUMMER The North Shore Family Y.M.C.A. offers a number of wilderness
programs for both adults and youths. Whether it be a 50 mile backpack along the
West Coast Trail, a 9 day canoeing trip on the Bowen Lakes, or a 2 day overnight trip
to Singing Pass in Garibaldi Park — a Y.M.C.A. wilderness program is sure to

The first grey hair

Whiteness of the hair is
not always due to aging as
we have a tendency to
believe.

It has been proven that
winter weather has an effect
on the acceleration of
whiteness of the hair. Lack
of sun impoverishes the
human organism in D
vitamins, which keep the
calcium and magnesium,
which are important in
helping hair retain its
original color.

Other causes may be the
hereditary transmission,
worries, stress and some-
times psychical shock, which
may provoke the early
coming of white hair.

Scientists are still looking
for the reasons why people's
hair turns white.

Fortunately there is a sulu-
tion to this problem — hair
coloring, which is_ easily
done but should be left to the
professionals.

When the time has come
that one must use color, it is
advisable to select a shade
lighter than one’s own color
so that the hair does not
frame the face. This could
make you look older which
is not what you want to
achieve.

Touch-ups following the
initial application of hair
color must be done very
carefully and only on the
regrown part of the hair — at
the roots — to avoid ap-
plication of the coloring
product on hair which 1s
already chemically
processed. This would result
in giving your hair a dull dry
look .
