HE LACK of local transit focus should
. be a major concern to all North Shore
residents.

North Vancouver District Coun. Ernie
Crist’s failed attempt at council’s July 10
meeting to win support for his motion that
council adopt an official position supporting a
North Shore rapid transit link is only the
most recent example of that lack of vision. —

Crist argued that the district must take
some kind of position on local rapid transit
now to ensure the district and the rest of the:
North Shore remains a livable area. |

But council members opposing his. motion

argued that projected growth on the North

Shore is not large enough to justify a commit-
ment to establishing a rapid transit tink to the
rest of the Lower Mainland. Other areas are
more in need, we keep being told."
