shows groups LOCAL BANDS are in the TV limelight Saturday nights beginning tomorrow at |! p.m. on Shaw and Rogers Cable 4. By Michael Becker Music Reporter DemoVision Project Discovery is funded entirely by Shaw Communications. Project Discovery originated in Alberta about seven years ago. The program format features 20 bands participating in !0 shows taped last summer at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver. The program is being shown across the country. Shaw is taping a similar series in Saskatoon. Add the 10 weeks worth of shows produced in Alberta and Shaw tapes 30 weeks of ‘production featuring young Canadian bands. The program airing tomorrow is the first for B.C. “it’s the first of five guaranteed years... Shaw has promised to back this project,” said Leslie Payne, Shaw Cable 4 pro- ‘gram coordinator, .. * Shaw is partnered with Shaw Communications-owned radio sta- tions CKLG and 99.3 ‘The Fox. “We work with CFOX on selection of the bands,” said Payne. The DemoVision name links the TV project to the CFOX annual Demolisten Derby competition for » local: bands.
