With regard to your story
of Jan. 31 “NVD_ finds
strong support for North-
lands,” I find the opposite to
be true.

A. return of 533 question-
naires from 26,073 mail-outs
represents a return of about
2%. That may be due in part
to the fact that my own ques-
tionnaire came with pieces of
junk mail and barely missed
being recycled immediately.

Interesting is the lack of in-
terest among the alleged 2,200
members of the North Shore
Public Golf Society (NSPGS).
Had not a single member of
the public, but all members
of the NSPGS replied — as
would be expected — only
25% of them wonld have
done so.

What mukes it even more
Astounding is remembrance of

‘your Mr, Millerchip’s account

of the first Information
meeting regarding the North-
lands Golf Course, where he
writes: “Golf course propo-
nents, some of whom could
be seen filling in more than
one questionnaire at the Oct.
8 meeting...’

_ With the upcoming elee-
tion, the cost of a referendum
would be minimal aad until
then, the public can find out
that:

(1) Under the old 1988 North-
lands plan density would be
flower than under the new
plan.

(2) The 1988 Northlands plan
had 89.45. acres of parkland
(no green Fees!).

(3) The 1988 Northlands plan
generaics $70 million in reve-
nue from land sales.

(4) The 1988 Northlands plan |

generates $725,000 in yearly
taxes. ‘

MDs have right to choose

Dear Editor:

I am following, with interest,
the matter of doctors wishing to
opt out of the medical plan,

I strongly disagree with David
Schreck of the NDP that doctors
wishing to opt out of the plan
should have their hospital rights
revoked.

Much ty Schreck’s isd: ain, i'm
sure, we ate still a democracy and
as such, every doctor should have
the option of rejecting the B.C.
Medical Plan and still be able to
fur:ction 100% in his professional
capacity.

choose or not choose a physician
working outside the Plan,
Germany has had socialized
medicine for many years and has
a high percentage of doctors
working effectively outside their
plan, as ‘‘private’’ doctors. The
system works very well both ways.
The point is doctors do have the
right to choose; it is simply
undemocratic (o take away that
right by forcing them to operate
within the confines of a socialized
system, .

Finances need creative solution

Dear Editor:

1 was most distressed to hear
Premier Warcourt suggest the an-
swer to B.C.'s deficit problem is
to raise taxes,

Increasing taxes to pay for. the
cost increases his government has
already incurred is not the answer.

The premier must look to cre-
ative methods to solve the pro-
vince’s financial situation.
