NEWS BRIEFS Woman sentenced A 61-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver woman can’t go shopping with an apron on for six months, according to a term of ker probation. The probation term ard condition came after Libuse Ruzene Peter pleaded guilty to stealing merchandise from Eaton’s, the Bay and Willson-Williams and Mackie stores on Feb. 6. In sentencing Peter, Judge Reginald D. Grandison also prohibited her from being found in any of those stores during the term of her probation. Peter appeared in West Vancouver provincial court on : April 30. Reel deal A SOLID Isshing of rain reduced attendance at the recently held 12th annual North Shore Firefighters Hose Reel Festival. Organizers of the fundraiser say they broke even on the event. Last year the festival raised approximately $20,000. Firefighters support the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, the Vancouver General Hospital Burn Fund, the North Shere Rescne Team and the North Shore Firefighters Senior Girls’ Basketball Tournament. Emergency funds THE NORTH and West Vancouver Emergency Program recently received $15,130 from the federal government to purchase portable radios. The funding is included in a $112,014 contribation made to the province under terms of the Joint Emergen- cy Preparedness Program. The victims had left the Grouse Mountain Skyride on April 11. At about {! p.m. they returned to their car parked in the upper lot. As they waited for the vehicle to warm .Up, a thief approached them.” The man walked up to the driver’s side of the car and opened the door. He flashed a six-inch knife and made off with $39,000 worth of jewelry. The thief escaped with: @ one men’s gold Rolex ‘‘Presi- dent’’ wristwatch; @ one men’s gold wedding ring with one small diamond; @ one men’s burgundy eelskin wallet containing $275 cash; @ one Pentax model 105R cam- era; @ one set of women’s rings, one with a one-carat diamond and one with 21 small diamonds totalling one carat; © one pair of diamond-chip earr- ings; @one Rado women’s gold wristwatch (square face); @ one women’s 22-karat gold loop-style bracelet with safety chain; ® one gold necklace with a 22- karat gold balf peridant. The thief fled the scene in a dark-colored sports car. A Skyride employee recalled seeing a dark grey Mazda RX7 and a dark maroon-colored Ford Mustang in the lot at the time of the robbery. The police believe the thief may have been riding in either of the vehicles. Witnesses are asked to call 985-3511 or 669-8477 (TIPS) if they have any information about the robbery.
