Goes to the Dogs!’

And it’s true. Peter Speck’s
paper and the Variety Club have
joined together to produce the
Variety Club’s Dog-a-thon, a
community-based event that in-
vites children and their pets to
walk laps around the track at
Mahon Park in North Van.

This year, the Dog-a-thon will
be held on Saturday, May 30 from
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and I’m
delighted to have been asked to be
the honorary chairman. While
every entrant will receive a gift,
there'll be dozens of prizes given
out including a mountain bike, a
portable CD player and gourmet
gift packs.

There’ll also be a costume
competition for those who wish to
dress up their doggies.

We'll also have many other
North Shore celebrities walking
their pooches, including members
of the B.C. Lions and the Van-
couver Canucks, so bring your
cam ‘as.

Funds raised from the Dog-a-
thon will be channelled into the
purchase of Sunshine Coaches for
Variety's special-needs children.
Tell you more on this most
charitable affair next week. And
let’s hope that on May 30 the sun
shines ...

the afternoon that much cozier!

were on hand to congratulate the

resident Jackson Davies and his
wife, Linda, were on hand.
Jackson was taking a breather just
before he left to appear on stage
ata TheatreSports competition
that night with fellow teammates,
U-TV’s Tamara Stanners and
weatherman Mark Driesschen.

TV Week columnist and pro-
motions man Red Robinson and
his wife, Carol, and the maga-
zine’s executive vice-president and
associate publisher Neil Soper and
his wife, Sharon, were sipping and
supping at Rick and Gale’s do
too.

Neil has recovered well from his
boating accident last summer and
Red and Carol have just moved
into a new home in Indian River
Estates.

PR lady Pauline Buck and her
actor-husband, Bill Buck, still
looked like newlyweds as they
perused the spacious master
bedroom and Gale’s huge
bathroom. The Bucks recently
celebrated their third wedding an-
niversary.

Ray and Grace McCarthy and
impresario Hugh Pickett finally
arrived after getting lost for about
an hour trying to find the place.
Grace was wearing a white jersey
pant suit with gold spangles and
looked so happy and relaxed.

The Century Piaza’s Lori and
Roy Lisogar and their daughter,
Wendy, and her husband, Sergio
Cocchia, had organized all the
delectable taste treats. Teeny
Wendy, who’s almost seven
months pregnant, looked adorable
in a two-piece pink silk suit.

Georgie. The head of BCTV, Ron
Bremner, and his elegant wife, |

Don Percy. Willy was with his

daughter of one-time local broad-
caster Roy Hennessy. The party
was fun, the house was spec-
tacular and their friends are
many! ...

Last Thursday was a red letter
day for popular Gerry McDowell,
West Vancouver’s deputy fire
chief. Gerry joined the West Van
municipal workers in 1952 and the
