Joy Metcalfe JOY TELLS ALL THE HEADLINE could read, ‘‘North Shore News Goes to the Dogs!’ And it’s true. Peter Speck’s paper and the Variety Club have joined together to produce the Variety Club’s Dog-a-thon, a community-based event that in- vites children and their pets to walk laps around the track at Mahon Park in North Van. This year, the Dog-a-thon will be held on Saturday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and I’m delighted to have been asked to be the honorary chairman. While every entrant will receive a gift, there'll be dozens of prizes given out including a mountain bike, a portable CD player and gourmet gift packs. There’ll also be a costume competition for those who wish to dress up their doggies. We'll also have many other North Shore celebrities walking their pooches, including members of the B.C. Lions and the Van- couver Canucks, so bring your cam ‘as. Funds raised from the Dog-a- thon will be channelled into the purchase of Sunshine Coaches for Variety's special-needs children. Tell you more on this most charitable affair next week. And let’s hope that on May 30 the sun shines ...
