SPORTS STURTRIDGE FOOTBALL Wolverines slash Packers THE WEST Vancouver Wolverines won the Gordon Stur- tridge League Bantam Footbal} ti- tle after a 16-6 win over the tough Deep Cove Packers at Norgaie Park last Sunday. The Wolverines opened the scor- ing with Jeff Potts diving in for a score from two yards out. Wolverine end Jay Sedgwick kicked the two point convert to make the score 8-0. The game see-sawed back and forth until late in the third quarter when Wolverine quarterback Matt Engelbert hit Potts on a screen pass with Potts running 25 yards to score. The convert attempt was missed, but a short time later defensive ends Asmand Kucvkgozen and Orang Toufi blocked a Packer punt which resulted in a two-point safety to make the score 16-0. The never-say-die Packers came right back with running back Den- pis Merk making the most of a broken play scampering 20 yards to score. The Packers missed the convert and were unsuccessful in a late on-side kickoff attempt which allowed the Wolverines with tough inside running from backs David Own the shirt that says it all.
