Signs, light to curb

COLD BEER and wine stores across British Columbia
continued to do a booming business as a strike by the
B.C. Government Employees’ Union closed liqaor stores
and other government services. Talks between the union
and government stalled in an impasse over money fate

dents will get a traffic light, playground signs, and a ‘no
trucks’ designation to address their concerns about traffic

on 23rd Street.

signal will be installed at 23rd and
St. Georges by Christmas, said
North Vancouver city engineer
Chuck Gale at Monday’s North
Vancouver City counci! meeting.

It was included in this year’s
budget, and the equipment, which
has been ordered, has started to
arrive, he said.

Council voted not to impese a
30-kilometre per hour speed limit
on 23rd between Lonsdale Avenue
and Moody Avenue, which the
Courthouse Area Residents’
Association requested in a submis-
sion to council Jast month.

Ald. Stella jo Dean initially
spoke in favor of the speed limit,
particularly near public facilities in
the 100 and 200 blocks of 23rd.
She said the fast traffic going by is
