FIVE NORTH Shore girls helped
lead B.C. to a gold medal at the
1987 Western Canadian Under-18
Girls’ All-Star team soccer cham-
pionships held Aug. 22 to 24 in
Regina, Saskatechewan.

Teams representing the top fe-
male soccer players from the four
western provinces competed in the
tournament.

On the B.C. team from the
North Shore Highlanders were
goalkeeper Teresa Willman, mid-
fielder Tori Cook and forward
Nicki Barber,

Lynu Vailey Renegades forward
Sackie Mudge and defender Laura
Pupp were also on the B.C. team.

B.C. opened the round-robin
tournament with a 11-0 whipping
of Saskatchewan, led by six goals
from Mudge, who scored nine
goals in the tournament.

The team then tied Alberta 2-2
and shut out Manitoba 3-0 to ad-
vance, leaving B.C. tied with
Alberta in points and goals for and
against.

The gold medal was decided on
a penalty shot shoot-out, which
