THE OLD Buzzards moved into first place in the North Shore Senior Hockey League with a 4-2 win over the Old Crows 4-2 last weekend Doug Ireland drove home Aime Lehouillier’s perfect pass-out in the first period, while Howie Carty tipped in a backhand in the second to give Buzzards a 2-0 lead. Wayne Silver narrowed the Buzzard lead to one when he scored with one se- cond left in the second period. John Pain, with his eighth of the season, tied the game midway through the third period. But Carty restored the Buzzard’s one-goal margin less than two minutes later. Gary Young added the clin- cher later in the period, In a game delayed earlier this season between Buz- zards and Drillers, Drillers built up a 2-0 lead on second period goals by Rick Walton and Larry Brown, The lead held up until late in the third period, when, with the Drillers two men short, Lehouillier scored for the Buzzards. Their net empty in favor of an extra attacker, the Buzzards tied the game on a goal by Val Donovan with 30 seconds left on the clock. In other league action, the Drillers squeezed by the Firefighters 5-4. Drillers opened up a 3-0 lead on goals by Rene Marleau, Hal Jenkins, and Don Hopps, before Eric Virs scored for the Firefighters on a penalty shot midway through the se- cond period. Larry Brown restored the Drillers’ three-goal lead be- fore the period ended.
