Many North Shore people are upset over
the recent tax assessment on their proper-
ties. Since real estate values have slid in the
past couple of months, some people have
found their homes’ assessed value appears
out of line with the market value.

Today’s question is:

‘Is the property assess-
ment system fair?’

The system is fair, but it is
not keeping up with the
changing value of real
estate. Also, if you ap-
peal, by the time the
appeal goes through, the
dollar value of the money
involved will have
shrunk. Maybe things will
even out in the end.
