And once again — thanks to the actions of a “neighbor — serious damage was prevented. A pile of kindling left in an open garage at 4245 Lynn Valley Road was torched at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Fortunately for the owner of the home, Gary Van Der. Lee, a neighbor walking a dog heard the fire crackling and woke Van Der Lee, who turned a garden hose on it while the fire department was arriving. The incident was almost a repeat of one that had oc- curred in the Delbrook area just three-days earlier when a neighbor spotted flames on the porch of a nearby house. In that instance, the neighbor found someone had set light to the outside of the backdoor, the floor area of the porch and carport. The neighbor put out the fire with a garden hose. Though neither incident caused significant damage, a District Fire Department spokesman said they are cause for alarm as_ they indicate arson is on the increase again. He commented of the Saturday fire: “Again, if an alert neighbor hadn’t noticed it there could have been a serious fire.” <= Stabbed after wedding A man walking home after a Saturday night wedding reception in West Van- couver was attacked and stabbed by an assailant who triedtorobhim. ~ Peter Vick, was walking along Marine Drive towards his home at the Plaza towers at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, when he was grabbed by his right shoulder.
