B10 - Friday, May 25, 1984 - North Shore News Out! BEACH TO BARBECUE There is something won- derfully lazy about summer. Whether it is the warm sun’s rays beating down, or just the thought of lying out by the pool or on the warm sand by the edge of the ocean, sum- mer ts a time for relaxation and vacation. Just the thought of waking up to find yourself immersed in the sun’s warmth on a Cape Cod beach almost auto- matically brings to mind the scenes that go along with summer. You can smeli the salt of the water as it crashes onto the shore, and tingle to the feel of the cool breeze, so refreshing against your skin. There are also the scents of coconut butter tanning oil be- ing lazily applied by those in search of ‘‘the ultimate tan,’”’ Axel’s Cycle 1852 Marine Drive, West Vancouver 926-6242 REALTY 2389 MARINE DRIVE, WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. V7B1K9 as well as the sight of people busily applying sun block and nose shields so they can enjoy the sun without burning. Picture yourself walking along the shore’s edge, col- lecting sea shells as you pass between the jetties. Walking, you can feel the sun beat against your face, while wat- ching children fish on the rocks. Watching the waves break onto the shore is almost mes- merizing, the beauty and grace of nature best exempli- fied in the waves of the sea. Contrasting the lightness of the sand to the rich blue- green of the ocean is a way of appreciating the ocean for all of its simplicity and elegance. Walking along the beach you see families together, enjoying themselves, with the children busy building sand castles and fortresses, and burying their feet and legs in the sand. Undoubtedly, a jogger or two will pass by busy keeping their feet at the water’s edge. You can’t help but notice all of the people enjoying the ocean, drifting on rafts, div- ing for shells or just swimm- ing and splashing around. There is no greater relief on a hot and humid day than the refreshing salt water. Depending on where you live, the ocean also offers many exciting water sports. If the waves are high, there is always surfing, or maybe wind-surfing for the more adventurous. there 1s always sailing. Whether you enjoy going out on a boat that sleeps four, or just sailing on small craft, inches from the ocean, you are sure to find ex- hilarating the feeling that the wind and water are splashing against your face. It is won- derfully relaxing to glide on And, the water, and just enjoy another beautiful summer day. Eating during the summer is also more relaxed. there is much less interest in hot and heavy foods than in light, cold meals. This is definitely the season for luscious fresh fruits. Whether your preference tends toward kiwis, peaches, GET AWAY TO THE WILDS Enjoying good old summertime plums or any other of the vast assortment available, they make for light and delicious snacks and, com- bined with cheese, a perfect warm-weather lunch. The bounty of green vegetables also available make salads an_ excellent choice for any meal. The emphasis is on com- fort for summer clothing. Light coftGns win out as the natural selection for tops and shorts, and are perfect for casual evenings by the shore. Summer is the ideal time for families to spend time together and enjoy each other, whether at the beach, or by the pool.
