od teachers missed in media c Dear Editor: ¢ live in an era of teacher bashing. Regrettably, we read se atten of teachers not being committed to the needs of our children; those who do not furnish adequate instruction; MAIL Box those who fail to provide suf: ficient. extra-curricular activi- ties; those isolated few who are mired in scandal. The list goes on. Rarely are we exposed to the instances — yet there are so many — of teachers who Healthy Food for Active Life! A classic illustration is the “math love-in” orchestrated by West Vancouver secondary school teacher Ms. Rebecca Rowley and other teachers. In order to prepare stu- dents for their final exams, they taught help sessions dur- ing the final week of school from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. for no less than three evenings. The students were led Loca verage through the whole year’s cur- riculum. Huge amounts of pizza were consumed and a plethora of math problems digested by up to 150 stu- dents during these marathons. The lamentable aspect of our educational system is that we hear so littie of the Rebecca Rowleys and many other teachers who make themselves available on a daily basi Barrie Street North Vancouver dialysis centre needed Dear Editor: After reading your editorial of June 23, oudining the uncertainty surrounding, bridge closures, I was remind- ed of earlier editorials concern- ing the potential of an earth- quake. It has been a major con- cern for all North Shore dialy- sis patients who could be cut off from life-saving weatment. Many appeals to the provincial government for funding a North Shore clinic are met with a multitude of excuses. (I think they are waiting to see the final tab for Glen Clark’s legal bills). I suggest your readers refer to the article in the June 25 paper headed Earthquake awareness highlighted. Because of the special needs of people on dialysis I have a few manuals left oudining how they can pre- pare. These are free. The num- ber of patients is growing every day and the need for a clinic is becoming critical. We can not afford to be complacent. RM. (Bob) Smith North Vancouver Creek helpers thanked Dear Editor: Thank you for printing the article on our coho release. There was a lot of interest generated from this. I would like to thank the Royal Bank employees for volunteering their time on such a lovely day. There were 82 members out and they were able to paint the yellow fish on 85 storm drains, deliver flyers to 308 neigh- bours and release 7,000 coho into’ Thames and Coleman Creeks. Thanks again to the Seymour Hatchery for coming through with so many coho, to Fisheries and Oceans for their transport of the fry and to the Ecology Centre for the loan of the storm drain marking. kits.
