Eldercoliege offers insight ELDERCOLLEGE'’S spring program includes new courses hosted by experts who offer insight into their fields. From aboriginal treaties to astronomy and trom comput- ers to Canadian novels, course subjects are designed to appeal To a variety of interests. Classes are offered at Capilano Coilege’s Seymour campus as well as at the Gerry Brewer Building, 147 E. l4th Sr., North Vancouver. All classes take place during the day. Some of the course being offered this spring: @ Figure Skating: The Sport [lustrated — five Wednesdays starting March 22: Just in time for the 2001 World Championships taking place in Vancouver, this course helps familiarize students with the history and mechanics of figure skating. Former national tam member Ted Barton, Olympic medallist Karen Magnussen, tigure-skating judge Jean Senft and coach Linda Brauckmann fecture. @ Listening, Learning and All that Jazz — six Thursdays, March 6 to April 20: Facilitated by former North Van District mayor Murray Dykeman, this jazz series profiles some of Vancouver's favourite performers and interpreters. @ Health and Health-Care Issues — six Thursdays, March 16-April 27: This course examines the issues while experts offer some solutions. Among the topics: The advantages of a publicly funded “single tier” health-care system, seniors self- care, regionalization status in health care and examining the claims of alternate medicine. @ Writing Your Memoirs — six Fridays, Feb. 4 to March 10: Each of the six sessions deals with ways of stimulating recall of memories, as well as suggestions tor writing and organizing, them into a coherent life story. Course registration is open to Eldercollege members only. Term meinbership is $120 and includes access to unlimited courses in one term as well as membership to the Capilano College library for the year and other benetits. Associate membership is $50. Financial aid is available to cover part of the cost of Eldercollege membership fees.
