Jon Malach, Scot Barnes, Fee and Adam MeMurchy were runners-up. The judging panel, which included this reporter, had a dit: feuir job of picking a winner. Also charged with the task were teachers Mano Tancon (woodworking |, Janet Warren (choir) and Mike Reid (drama), Larry Henessey of Larry cy Willie morning show fame and Jennifer Kellough and Joe! O'Reilly of Principals Talent Agency. After the Eagles Extreme Dancers opened the show, the crowd of 400 was intraduced to the evening's 14 contestanes. The first category was casual wear, with the guys modeling clothing from the Gap and Booilegger. The beachwear sex ment was next, with most contestants making a modest approach. No Speedos here: attire ran the gamut trom bathrobe and pajamas (Scott Barnes) to a girl's field hockey skirt James Lawson). There were big points to carn in the talent section. A joke- telling, saxophone-plaving, show rune-singing Scott Barnes was a rough act to follow, but the others did net disappoint. Craig Cuthbert had the crowd going. His attempt at down- ing five slices of Nutella-coated bread without a chaser of milk was unsuccessful, however. Aaron Fee finessed his way through Yanni's piano solo One Man's Dream. Dave French rocked out with a Jimi Hendrix/Thurston Moore delivery of O Casada. Gabe Hodge delivered a con- vincing monologue in the guise of a street person. Daniel Nine displaved his preternacural talents with a tarot reading. James Lawson proved his forte at juggling with ripe can- taloupes, Drew Lewis captured voung hearts with his love poem. Jon Malach showed grace and strength in his dance/karate demo. Adam MeMarchy belted our Van Morrison's Brown-Eved Girl. Brandon “the Hair” Primrose lip svnched to a ballad. Philip Seo sang to Jon Bon Jo's Afvays. Jason Turcotte delivered a credible Eddie Murphy routine. Farid Vazin wowed the crowd with awesorae martial arts skill. The contestants closed the show in tux and tails trom Black Tie formal wear. The event netted $1,690 for the Class of "98, which will use the money to offset costs of a graduation banquet at the Hyatr. Grad sponsor Barbara McKinley commended the efforts of fellow grad sponsor Kathleen Barter and the school’s 10- member grad council tor producing the event. In particular, students Vicnays Venu, David Johnson and Marika Mayall played a major part in the shaw’s success.
