Are all trained in forensics? Or simply browsing, obviously 18 persons at feast, not need- ed on the public payroll. Could these 18 not have been put on the trail of the “North. Shore Wanted” pic- tured on page five, same issue, particularly one made to look as dangerous as his alleged offence, loitering. Judging by your page three photo, there was much loiter- ing.on Wellington Street. Maybe some of the 18 could have visited a public house or two where at even that time of day many citizens are setting up a case for attempted drunkenness over a draft. Pure theatre: expensive, absurd theatre. Lay ’em off. Peter Wolanski North Vancouver Dear Editor: I cannot understand why there has never been any enforcement concerning the jay-walking that continues daily in the 100-block of East 13th Streer. Considering that it is one of the busiest streets in North Vancouver for automobile traffic, why do the police not put a stop to the dozens of people who jay-walk in the middle of this block every day? It’s certain that somcone will be killed or seriously injured before the law is enforced. Senior citizens can hardly get across the road, without traffic having to stop. You would nor see this hap- pen anywhere else. Crosswatks are only one haif block away. fhe police will say they do not have the resources to enforce this. But that is nonsense because this is the only busy block anywhere on the Lower Mainland where you can get away with this. The police only need to spend an hour or so each week and fine people who continuously put their lives in jeopardy. Also a couple of signs would help, warning persons not to cross. Hardly a day goes by in which you don’t see someone come very close to being knocked down. Lorne E. Dennis North Vancouver A spring election in the air Dear Editor: It would be wonderful if Noel! Wright’s speculation for a snap spring election comes true, because I’ve been spec- ulating on the dire conse- quences if this dreadful NDP government goes. to full term. And then imagine what, at this rate, can happen in another two years. The worst worry being the stain of the indelible legacies they will leave behind — such as the likes of ICBC after the last lor. If Mr. Campbell were to repudiate these potential lega- cies as they occur, with a promise to reverse them at his government's first opportuni- ty, it will serve to negate their indelibility up front. And then Mr. Wright won't have to wonder and worry where the “collapsed” Reformer’s votes will go.
