‘tural IF THERE’S one thing I wish for the white pro-multicult crowd it’s that their kids be thrown into some inner city school packed with children of a totaily different culture. They mighit then have sec- ond thoughts about the joys of our immigration policies. The same applies to the liberal media who sit far from the madding crowd. They remind me of those Labor politicians in post-war Britain who preached the virtues of the new state “comprehensive” schools while sending their own kids to Eton, Harrow and Winchester. In the Vancouver area, many parents move out to places like Tsawwassen in the forlorn hope of avoiding the immigrant flood. In the same false hope, people who have money send their kids to private schools. Multicult maker Pierre Trudeau did that and I am told that Ontario's big ‘‘anti- racist,” sccialist Stephen Lewis, did it too. People like them rarely practise what they preach. These murky thoughts were inspired by Michael Valpy of the Globe & Mail. He was once an editorial _writer when I was writing for the Vancouver Sun and some- times I would have a few laughs with him even though he is s world-saver who should have been a parson. He recently took it upon himself to worry about the ‘ masses of Somalis that Ottawa has brought into the Toronto area as “refugees.” The headline on a recent column of his was, “The hurt ‘felt by Somali youngsters.” That gives you the drift of his piece. : But to make his point he Dou Collins on the other hand had to make some startling confessions regarding what has been going on in the schools of Etobicoke, which is part of Metro Toronto. The idiotic Tories started it. Thanks to them, Islam arrived in that municipality en masse. Thousands of true believ- ers. And their kids hit the schools like an avalanche. “From the first day the young Somalis walked through the doors .... Islam slammed into the majority Christian-Judeo culture,” wrote Valpy. “And no one knew how to handle it. “Suddenly, all these hun- dreds of alien children would bolt from classrooms at spe- cific moments regardless of school timetables and activi- ties.” They were off to say their prayers and would leave the washrooms in a sodden mess, They washed their geni- tals “as cultural custom required,” and tried to wash their feet in the washbasins as religious custom required. Fights would break out between students “for inex- plicable reasons.” Not to worry, though, for it was discovered that hurling verbal insults and challenges was a village custom in Somalia for ventilating anger “without intending that it should result in a fight.” CO; There was conflict between Somali girls and girls from the Caribbean because boys from the Caribbean (God bless the ethnic mix) were falling for Somali girls. Racial jealousies, you know. One problem, explained the liberal Valpy liberally, was that the Somulis, “like young people all over the world,” thought everyone should understand their cus- toms. Another was that since there were so many of them “they saw no need to assimi- late or to adapt their customs to a Canadian context.” Of course not. It’s called tribalism. But Valpy was anxious to indicate that thanks to mas- sive intervention by ruce relations “experts,” the situa- tion has improved. More likely is that as a result of big-time brainwash- ing and bullying the saucepan has had a lid placed on it. Until it boils over. Si Ons Can you imagine having to attend schools like that? The “hurt felt by the Somali youngsters” is one thing. The hurt felt by the white kids is another. But neither Valpy nor anyone else writes about that. One doubts that he has any kids in those schools. The Tories who brought these people in and the Liberals who are sti}! bring- ing them in couldn't give a damn about the problems of Etobicoke. Or those of Vancouver or any other city. All they care about is the immigrant vote and getting the glad hand at the UN. Have a nice day.
