LOWER LONSDALE: What's good about it? What would make it better? How can that happen? These are some of the questions being discussed by hundreds of Lower Lonsdale residents, The focal point of all this activ- ity is a diverse group of citizens who call themselves the Lower Lonsdale Community © Action Network (Lower Lonsdale C.A.N.). Jna neighborhood which differs dramatically in its socio-economic profile from all the others on the North Shore, this group is starting lo make changes. The network has been in the _ neighborhood asking and listening. ‘The issues identified are not all eS new: safety, environment, housing, places for teens. Sometimes community devel- opment groups are supported by existing conmmunity organizations. Lower Lonsdale C.A.N. is support- ed by North Shore Neighborhood House and North Shore Health, The groups offer meeting space, clerical support and participate in network meetings as resources to members. On Saturday. from 10 a.m, to 5 p.m. at North Shore Neighborhood House there wil) be a community celebration day, a day to get together, have fun, meet neighbors, see displays, booths and informa- tion about all the ideas community members have given and see a children’s art exhibition, This is a chance for community MER IIS rkers ute break-ins A QUICK-THINKING West Vancouver resident called police early Tuesday morning after seeing a light from a flashiight come through her window. lo Police believe the flashlight was used by two suspects allegediy breaking into/ cars near the 3000-block of Spencer Drive. The caller, police say, saw the men breaking into her vehicle. | Police cordoned off;the area and eventually arrested the men, according: to a West Vancouver Police spokesman. i One man was arrested as he was leaving a driveway near the caller’s home. A youth was arrested in the area of Gisby Street and Rosebery Avenue, according to police. Del Peter Hildebrand, 25, of Vancouver, and a 17-year- ‘old youth, of no fixed address, face charges of possessing stolen property under $5,000 and three counts of theft under $5,600. The teenager also faces charges of breach- . ing probation and possessing break-in instruments. The pair are known to West Vancouver Police who arrested them on Valentine’s Day in a car believed stolen. Police had recommended three charges of theft and three charges of possessing stolen property be laid against “the men relating to the Feb. 14 arrest. Two face extortion charges TWO WEST Vancouver teens were arrested and face charges of extor- tion following an incident at Hillside Middle School recently. West Vancouver Police arrested the pair Jast Friday after receiving a complaint about one of the teens approaching a 14-year-old Hillside student during lunch and attempting to extort money from the student. One of the arrested is 15 and the ‘ other is 16. One attends Hillside and the other attends West Vancouver secondary school. The paiz was released on the condition that na contact be made with the victim, They are not to be: found within three blocks of the’ two schools. The two are to appear in court on June 7.
