Kurt Szul’s rare nine-string gui-
tar was stolen during a break-in at
his apartment in Lynmour Village
near the Coach House fnn.

The thief teft the 23-year-old
musician with nothing to play.

The jazz guitarist feels he will
likely have to stop earning a living
as a musician until he can afford to

have another nine-string built.

The stolen guitar was custan-
built for the musician who says he
can’t play conventional six or [2-
string guitars,

“Tewould be like playing anoth-
er musical instrument. J tried last
night to play a six-string. twas just
foreign.” said Szul, who attended
the Capilano College music pro-
gram,

He.estimates the guitar's value
wt $5,000, but adds its likely
worthless to anyone but himsell. tHe
designed the instrument.

“They Il be lucky if they get $50

for it” said Saul.
