Said Morton, “I've certainly enjoycd North Vancouver detachment. During his time with the RCMP, Morton spent four years in the Regina training division. “E lectured on ihe practical aspect of the police role. {t was very enjoyable,’ he said. Morton was drawn to policing while growing up in the small Maniroban prairie town of Min- nedosa. “Sothink it was my relationship with the young police officers in the community [ was raised in. It was a long-term interest I even- tually realized when | was 23 years of age,"” he said. While he admits to no definite plans for his post-policing life, he does have some general ideas: ‘As of now, some months of nothing are planned apart from a trip into the ski hills or a trip to southern, warmer climates. Prior to joining the police force | was a school teacher, so | could return to that.” As of Monday, the detachment will be headed by Bob Byam. Byam is transferring to North Vancouver from the Maple Ridge RCMP detachment, In the meantime, the local RCMP detachment will be adding four new regular members to a force of 136 regular members. The detachment is also supported by 45 auxiliary police officers. Said Morton, “The city and district (of North Vancouver) have agreed to take on additional police officers. Each has agreed to hire two more police officers. And we also have agreed to change two of our present functions that are done by police officers to having them performed by municipal employees — one is the court liai- son and the other is the Victim Assistance Program director.
