camps. But most of those
guys never saw the front fine,
just as most of the Waffen SS
never saw a concentration
camp. Young Germans join-

like the Commandos,
Paratroopers and Marines.
That was the way it was.
it will be said, of course,
that your correspondent has
now gone so batty that he has
taken to admiring the SS.

Well, it is true that they were
on the wrong side, and that
some of them committed
atrocities. But it is also true
that they were superb fighters
and that not all atrocities are
committed by the bad guys.
