Shore operators A PROPOSED move to deregulate the Lower Mainland’s taxi in- dustry has been warmly greeted by taxi opera- tors on the North Shore. Both Richard Hughes, president of Sunshine Cabs, and Garry Corrigan, opera- tions manager of North Shore Taxi, call the proposal ‘‘the first positive step’’ toward restructuring the in- dustry and ‘‘creating a con- Sumer-responsive taxi ystem.”’ ; The proposed change, an- ‘nounced Friday by the Motor Carrier Commission, would see the Lower Mainland thrown open to ‘increased competition with taxi companies being allow- ed to pick up fares outside of their licence area. .
