CUTTING THE CAKE on his recent 100th birthday was Ernest W. Fane (right) who
celebrated at the North Shore Private Hospital with his 93-year-old wife Margaret, nee
Ashcroft (left), members of his family and representatives from B.C. Hydro — his
longtime employers, who presented him with a $100 gift. Born in Croydon, Mr. Fane
came to Canada in 1905 and settled shortly afterwards in Vancouver. For 31 years until
retiring in 1941 he served as a North Van street car conductor. Greetings from the Queen
and Prime Minister Trudeau were among other highlights of the day.
