S Spee - gE 3 “£3 pete? ACS tied DRAMA FESTIVAL UNDER WAY THE NORTH SHORE Zone of Theatre B.C. is once again presenting its Festival of Plays this week. Individual community theatre groups enter one act or full length plays in this festival and compete against each other for various acting and technical awards. Each night two one act plays or a full length drama will be presented and at the end of each evening, John Lazarus (actor, playwright and critic) will publicly adjudicate each play. Opening night of the festival was Tuesday with two one acts. Welcome to Andromeda, written by Ron. Whyte and directed by Des Price was presented by West Van Listle Theatre and Lunchtime Concert, directed by Rita Weeks was performed by North Van Community players, winners of last year’s festival. On Wednesday, April 28 The Actors’ Company will present a full length drama Conduct Unbecoming written by Barry England and directed by Mary-Louise McCausland. On Thursday, April 29, Theatre West will present Runaways. written ~ by Elizabeth Swados = and directed by Peter O'Rourke. The major started the organization as a means of combating the depression of the twenties and it has gone from strength to strength, bringing services, such as workshops, a consultant and publications, to community theatre groups, thus enabling them to present an even better standard of theatre at this year’s festival. The chosen (or winning play) from the zone festival will go forward to the Theatre B.C. finals festival, which this year will be part of the B.C. Festival of the Arts in Kamloops. June 1982. The North Shore festival of plays will be held in Presentation House, 333 Chesterfield in North Vancouver from Tuesday April 27 to Saturday, May 1. Curtain time is 8 p.m. and there will be no admittance during performances. Ticket prices are $3.00 per night during the week or a weekly pass for $12.
