Al4-Wednesday, November 5, 1980 - North Shore News Lower Lonsdale recreation a priority for Hall Submission of a money bylaw early next year to provide major recreational facilities in Lower Lonsdale is being urged by Ralph Hall. a North Vancouver City aldermanic candidate in the November 15 by-election. Hall, a lifetime Citv resident who spent his first 26 years in Lower*Lonsdale, told The News that at the bare minimum an indoor swimming pool and a full- sized playing field should be provided in the area south of Keith Road. “When I was on City council in 1977 I submitted a resolution, passed by council, that budgetary priority be given to Lower Lonsdale recreational Money not everything facilities. All that’s been done is to build a couple of tennis courts. Not enough. A sad lack of effort, in fact. Elections ‘80 = X VOTE AS YOU PLEASE, BUT PLEASE VOTE NOVEMBER 15 “During the time that I served as chairman of the City’s select) parks and recreation committee, recommendations for provision of a wide range of new facilities got nowhere. “Well, the city has per- mitted the construction of many hundreds of apartment units in Lower Lonsdale without’ ensuring that the residents there have the same recreational op- portunities as citizens living elsewhere .- in the municipality. “The social problems created by the _ high population density in Lower Lonsdale are upon us. It is imperative that we make a determined effort to ease the situation.” Hall pointed out thal a money bylaw should provide voters in all parts of the City with an opportunity to support needed expenditures says trustee hopeful Money is not necessarily the answer to producing a top-quality school system, says North Vancouver School board candidate Alfred Sale. Sale, who is. seeking election for the first time on November 15, is sponsored by the North Vancouver Concerned Citizens Association. The way to achieve educational excellence, he maintains,is through the effective use of personnel, with teachers recognized and rewarded according to the quality of their results. Parents and students, he suggests, are best qualified to measure those results, with which they have to live for the rest of their lives. For ALFRED SALE that reason he feels parents must have a greater choice in the direction of their children’s education Sale is an independent business man engaged for 26 years in the building industry on the North Shore. He has an active record of volunteer work in conservation, soccer, scouting and baseball. A District resident for 21 years, Sale is marned with three sons, two already graduated and one still in the North Van school system. “With declining enrolment,” he says, “we have the opportunity to make this the most progressive and challenging system in the country. I can contribute to the creation of a healthy balance on the board, a necessary ingredient for any system to survive and progress.” Holiday Perm Special Services tre hace Man Dosigning appl ation Carbon tagy Cooosmtvestic ceteatl sealers ee hair & Marnie Gres A Ree cress skin Studio Men boa tats Marker vay. I'm sure the people living north of Keith Road will reciprocate. It’s hkely the provincial grants would be available, too.” Hall said he would hke to see the swimming pool located at North Shore Neighborhood House if sufficient space is available. “There is no reason why Neighborhood House could not become Recreation Centre South with the House, of course, continuing its vital role in serving the area.” Hall said City council Fimess is a nafional issue.
