He was 65. Whyte, of West Vancouver, was chairman of the Real Estate Council of British Columbia. He began his career as a salesperson with Block Bros. Realty — in Vancouver in 1964) betore moving to Powell River. In 1966 he joined Mitten Realty in North Vancouver, where be remained in various executive positions until the firm was acquired by Sussex Realty in 1992. Whyte was born in South Porcupine, Ontario on March 31, 1934. He will be sadly missed by his wife Judi. chil- dren Murray, Mary Beth, Graham, George Jr, Adam, Wade, and Robbi-Layne, and grandchildren Mathew, Cody, Dane, Austen, Hunter and Samantha, Rick Anderson, North Shore News real estate man- ager, remembered Whyte as “the consummate gendeman with a deep and enduring respect for his wife and family. “He shared his enthusiasm and happiness with everyone who knew him,” Anderson said. “He was a really nice guy who enjoyed life. We at the North Shore News will miss you.” Whyte was a member and past director of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver and a past-presi- dent of the Norti: Vancouver division of the board. Money offered to solve threat case BC Ferries and its workers’ union can’t agree on a new contract. But they have agreed to match Ferry CURE’s $500 reward to catch and convict the person or persons who have disrupted sail- ings with bomb threats. KC Ferries spokesman Joanne Whittier said Tuesday that 10 bomb threats have been received since October. The Horseshoe Bay to Bowen Island and Horseshoe Bay to Langdale routes have been the targets, Whittier said. BC Ferries nad averaged about one per year prior to 1999, she said. A News phone call to the Bowen Island RCMP detachment was not returned. Ferry CURE, a Bowen Island terry lobby group, offered a $500 reward Jast Friday. BC Ferries and the B.C. Ferry and Marine Workers’ Union chipped in $500 each for a $1,500 reward Monday. “Passengers have been very understanding, however their patience is being tested,” said BCFMWU president Ken Michael. “Crews want to put a stop to these incidents and return to the reliable service our customers depend on.” The threats have delayed and even cancelled sailings. She did not have details on each case, but said no explosive devices have been found.
