Forty-two artists will each display one work alongside Direetfous, a series of 13 collages representing the last col lection of work completed by Shadbolt prior to his death in November last vear. Several North Shore artists, including Gordon Smith and Sylvia Tare, are featured in the exhibi- tion, Contributors have chosen or created 2 work in homage to Shadbolt: pieces which in some way reflect his influence asa colleague and a teacher. Transformations Assembled Wood Sculpture teavares recent works by Vancouver sculptor Kazumi Tanaka at the Capilano College Gallery. Tanaka, 2 former photographer who has exhibited widely across North America, Europe and Japan, says his sculptures “emphasize simplicity” by transforming the impert’ rctions in natural materials such as Wood into works of art. Persian dance Looking for something a little ditferent this weekend? North Vancouver-based Atash Dance Group will perform a blend of traditional Persian choreography and Western styles tomorrow night in New Traditions, a benefit pertor- mance at Vancouver Community College. The company is renowned for its colourful costumes and unique style, which combine techniques as disparate as bal- let and Kurdish dancing. Proceeds from the show will benefit both Atash and Cityfest "99, a free intercultural performing arts festival scheduled for the Victoria Day long weekend.
