The awards were created in ‘84 to recognize wornen for their achievements in arts and culture, communications and public service; education, rrain- ing and development, entrepre- neur/innovator; health aud wellness, the professions and trades, recreation, spert and active fiving; science and tech- nology, voluntary community and humanitarian service and young women of distinction. The winners were chosen from 43 nominces. North Shore residents hon- ored Thursday at the Hyatt Regency were: Ann Cowan, die program slirector for continuing studies at SFU and co-director of the university’s Canadian Centre tor Studies in Publishing, in the category of education, training and development. @ Farida Sayani, the owaer and managing director of Executive Hotels and Suites, a chain of corporate hotels whase annual revenue this vear will exceed $30 million, in the caregory of entrepreneur/innovator B Ann Willcocks, vice-principal of Burnaby South secondary school, and founding member and current president of une BC Nethall Association, in the recreation, sport and active liv- ing category. @ Anita Dadson, an active wol- unteer who helped detclop the North Shore’s HandyDart transportation system for resi- dents with special needs, in che voluntary community anc humanitarian service category.
