Hutchinson is in the militia and noi the regular military. The militia involves part-time service. She volunteered to be part of the Canadian UN forczs stationed in the civil-war hot spot. Hutchinson was involved in a large selection process that sent 60 out of 200 British Columbians for further screening in Winnipeg. About half of the 60 B.C. peo- ple were ultimately chosen to go to the former Yugoslavia. Another North Shore resident selected to go was Cpl. Christian Bischler. Hutchinson’s Canadian uniform will be altered slightly to show that she is part of the multi-nation UN force. : And besides Canadian military pay, Hutchinson will receive UN pay during her stay in Croatia. “I'd do it for free, though, for the experience,’’ said Hutchinson.
