John Oliver triumphs over Windsor in defensive gem Dukes lose 7-0 in Big Sky northern division football A SECOND-place battle that went right to the wire in B.C. single ‘‘A,”’ high school football's Big Sky northern division, left the Windsor Dukes just short in an exciting game last Saturday. John Oliver’s team got an early touchdown, then both teams displayed a defensive gem that ended 7-0. Windsor’s last drive, which started on their own 25 yardline, ended with quarterback Trevor Martin’s failed hail mary attempt from John Oliver’s 30, with one minute left in the game. John Oliver 100k second place behind Carson Graham, while Windsor took third. The Dukes put up a valiant ef- fort considering five key players were missing due to injuries. Three injured linesmen combin- ed for a total of 619 pounds. “In the first few games, before these guys got hurt, they were do- ing an excellent job for us,’”’ Dukes coach Jay Prepchuk said. Nov. 4, 1992 - North Shore News - 47 Holy Trinity raises funds through annual run-a-thon STUDENTS AT Holy Trinity Elementary school in North Vancouver have been literally running amok this fall, and they have their teachers’ blessings. For the past 12 years students at the school have held run-a- thons to raise money, and awareness, for the Canadian Cancer Society. To date, their ef- forts have raised $38,000. This year, the kids ran for Canuck Place, a hospice which is being built for terminally ill children. The Vancouver Canucks hockey club is a major sponsor of the hospice, and the team donated a baseball cap, posters, a hockey jersey and a gold pen and pencil set to the run-a-thon cause. Students ran 10 km. over a five-day period on a course that is set around the school's perimeter. The winning class — most money raised — gets to attend a Canucks practice. is coming.
