‘Sentinel student’s

FACED WITH a huge provincial deficit, B.C. Finance
Minister Glen Clark appeared to take little time before
finally rejecting the federal government’s renewed sug-
gestion to harmonize the unpopular GST with the pro-
vincial sales tax (PST). Harmonizing the two taxes
would reduce government book-keeping, increase the

feds’ flexibility in taxing goods and services, and in-
crease provincial revenue through new taxes on such
items as bocks and children’s clothing. Provincia! con-
sumers will pay more taxes if the GST and PST are
harmonized.
