THE B.C. Soccer Association's International Seccer School (BCSAISS) is gearing up for another trip overseas, For most of the 170 players, coaches and referees who've previously registered with the school the trip has been the soccer experience of a lifetime. The fifth annual edition of the successful overseas residential soc- cer-school is set to go March 6 to 20, 1987, at the International Sports Centre, Quorn Hall, in Leicestershire, England. Organized by BCSA develop- ment coordinator Alan Churchard, and staffed by qualified instructors of the English Football Associa- tion, the program is designed to give each participant top level coaching combined with an en- joyable cultural experience. Heading the list of instructors on the two-week course will be former soccer professional and England youth team coach John Bramley, who has been directing the school since its inception ‘1 1983. Also joining Bramley on the coaching staff will be fo:mer England goalkeeper Gor'on Banks, current director o1 coaching for the Football Associa- tion of Ireland, Alan Wade, and Dundee United and Scotland striker Paul Sturrock. The 1987 International Soccer School is open to boys between the ages of 13 and 18, Tne cost of the trip is $1,750, which includes round-trip air fare, all meals, accommodation, trans- portation in England, instruction, full insurance, sightseeing, and tickets to top level professional league games. Besides the rigors of daily coaching sessions, matches are ar- ranged against local sides. Sightseeing tours are also arranged and at the end of the two-week course, the participants are taken on a full tour of London. Historic sights such as Buck- ingham Palace, the Houses of Pariiament and the Tower of Lon- don, are built into the itinerary. The boys also take a conducted tour of famous Wembley Stadium — home of the English national team and venue of all major English FA competition finals. Says Churchard: ‘The overall purpose of the school is to build soccer skills and to acquire a deeper understanding of the game. We like to refer to it as two weeks of soccer saturation with a bit of a holiday thrown in, We help the boys develop their soccer skills ac- cording to the individual level of the player. “I'd like to point out that the school is not just for B.C. players. We encourage boys from other areas to come with us also. Since we started the program we’ve had people from as far away as On- tario register for the course. Last year we took 22 on the trip. They all thoroughly enjoyed it.” Participants are accompanied and supervised at all times by staff of the B.C. Soccer Association. Closing date to register is Dec. 32. More details and registration forms can be obtained by contac- ting the BCSA’s Burnaby head- quarters at 430-6401. 3i - Wednesday, December 10, 1986 - North Shore News N.
