Video recorders popular NORTH SHORE residents will buy up almost half a million dollars worth of home video recorders by the end of December. So says a telephone survey conducted by the North Shore News Research -Department. We asked a ‘geographically. balanced sampling of 420 readers two questions. We thought it would be interesting to find out just ‘how many of us have -already gone out and bought a video machine. Of our 420 sample, 32.5% said they _ GREEN PEPPERS already owned one. When this is multiplied by the News circulation of 55,000, it turns out that there is already a VCR sitting in 17,875 North Shore _ liv- ingrooms. This has to be good news for the many flourishing video movie rental outlets. We also asked our 420 teaders if they were planning to buy a VCR by the end of the year. A seemirgly small 2% answered in the affir- mative. But when you multiply that 2% by News circulation of 56,245, you get 1,125 households plann- ing to buy. The “commit- ted’? buyers will be paying an average of $400 per unit - $450,000 in total. The number of ‘impulse’ buyers - those responding to ads and sale prices who had previously not planned to buy - could push the figure up to well over half a million dollars. The survey did not Measure whether the pur- chases would be made on, or off the North Shore.
