TO FOLLOW §iast column on Reno, where I delved into the mysteries of slot machines, I carefully wrote a long discourse on the various other games - played in Nevada. As I pounded away on my typewriter, the stack of finished pages rose past the legal limit in height, I re- read the whole thing and promptly put myself to sleep. For the moment, Ill leave ganies and ‘return to them in a later edition. Let’s talk about food! There is nowhere in the world that you can get fed more generous servings for as small a price as in Reno! For example, anyone who pays more than 99¢ for a breakfast of ham (or bacon or sausage), two or three eggs, any style, hash brown potatoes, toast with jam and coffee is a brick short of a load. Try the Cal-Neva (24 hours a day) or the Silver Spur/Horseshoe_ (recently combined) or Jim Kelly's Nugget (ff p-m. « tf a.m-): I like the Nugget because the hash browns are better but all are good. There's more room in the other restaurants. Fancy dining has never ‘been one of our priorities in Reno. When we're hungry. we eat - preferably good food that’s fast and cheap. Must not cut into our gambling time, you un- derstand. * . . The prime rib dinner at” Jim Kelly’s Nugget used to be the best food bargain in Reno. At one time $2.99 bought you soup or salad, prime rib, baked potato with sour cream/chive mixture, vegetable, rolls and butter. The price has gone up to $4.69 but it’s still a bargain. The beef is marvellous - fork tender and about 12 ounces. Alas, the salad and vegetable have gone downhill. The rolls have improved - now made on the premises. I've never tried the pte in Pee | aE by Barbara McCreadie the Nugget but it’s reputed to be first class. Although we try to eat less beef at home, I did try the prime rib dinner next door at the Silver Spur/Horseshoe (nearly O.D.’d on prime rib but all in the cause of un- selfish research!). For $4.98, you get the same full meal but the quality is better. I must rave about the soup! Cream of chicken noodle and delicious. If you want a light snack, have the soup only - 50¢ a cup or 65¢ a bowl. Great at 2 a.m. before retiring. If you want a breakfast buffet that will carry you an © entire day, try- Harrah's Skywalk Buffet. As part of our tour package, we were given a free ticket to this and didn't eat again all day. If you’re buying, it’s 3.79, all you can eat including dozens of fresh fruit combos, jelly salads, twelve hot dishes and a whole section of various pastries. Pig-out-time! Served every week-day until 11:30. People tell me that the luncheon buffets and dinner buffets are good: too, but we didn't indulge.
