C6 - Wednesday, January 13, 1982 - North Shore News Passport to gourmet success "THE MENU’ Suppose you live alone and you would like to prepare a first class dinner for that someone special. All your life you have been pretty good at hamburgers, tacos, and “Shake and Bake”, but you would like to elevate your cuisinary skills. Where do you start? Here is one way. A North Vancouver woman, Maureen Hunter, offers a unique service to people who are novice cooks which is called “The Menu”. When you become a member of her club, each month you receive a different package which contains a complete shopping list, preparation timetable, wine suggestions, menu cards, short-cuts, and all the necessary information to prepare a first class dinner. Each month there is a different theme for the dinner — in accordance with the seasons. Hunter started her service about two and a half years ago when she ran a small catering service and friends would keep asking her about food preparation. Since her small beginning, The Menu now has over 1,000 members in B.C., the rest of Canada, United States and Europe. Well educated in cooking, Maureen has studied in San Francisco's famous Tante Marie, where she has also studied wine. Now, at last, gourmet cooking is within the reach of the average cook and it is possible to rise above the confines of wieners and beans. For more information, call 929-7404.
