" WERKEND TRAVELLERS, teking advantage of three days olf and a tante of real cam- mer can expect the same thing Monday that they faced Friday — lengthy line-ups at area ferry terminals. LYNN CREEK’S forested watershed. lands face possible loggifiig or mining devastation if North Vancouver District doesn’t quickly act to support a wilderness park scheme for the area, council learned Monday. North Van City’s urgent plea to District for support of a wilderness park follows a decision by City council in May to forego continuing use of upper Lynn Creek watershed for domestic water supplies. Since that time, City has been negotiating with both provincial government and Greater Vancouver regional district officials to agree on the wilderness park pro- posal. Currently, Lyna Creck is protected under its watcr licence and is excluded from park uses. Because City wants to develop the area as recres- tional lands, they first have to secure support from District and West Van for the proposal to be given serious consideration by GVRD officials. Keep Canada Beautiful “City has suggested that the proposed park might be either regional or provincial but (would prefer) a regional wilderness park so that GVRD may initiate more detailed studies,” said District Planning Analyst Des Smith. in a letter to council. if City fails to get’ Lynn Creek watershed parkland status, “they may be opened to forestry and mining and - ruined for recreational pur- poses for many years to come,” contended Smith. District supported the pro- and now it's up to the GVYRD to provide detailed studies for the region. Also, District further recommended that the study “be expanded and. include the Rice Lake area and adja- cent Seymour river valley as part of a comprehensive regional or provincial park.” ANNOUNCEMENT The B.C.
