Hurnaty ( cateal ean) Joy in the valley Girls turn this weekend There may have been rain throughout most of the lower mainland on Sunday, but in Lynn Valley it was sunshine city as the North Van community celebrated a pair of wins by their Lynn Valley Falcons at the Sun Soccer Torunament on Saturday. Advancing to_ the provincial finals to be held in July were the Lynn Valley Falcons of division three and also division six. The division six Falcons not only downed Coquitam Cape Hom Wave 2-1, but were named as the top team of the weekend tournament, involving the best 14 teams in the lower mainland and Island areas. Both Falcon teams came out smoking and had vir- tually won their games before the half tume whistle blew. In the third division game, Nick D’Onofrio found the range after 16 minutes for the game winner against Bumaby Willingdon Park Cubs. Eight minutes before the half, Dino Accili added a bit of icing making 11 2-0. Karim Tejam_ kept the slate clean for Falcons who played control soccer in the second half. The younger division s1x Falcons struck hard even earlier in their game with Mike Dodd bending the back of the net at the two minute mark, leaving Coquitlam playing catch-up the rest of the match. Before the half ended Steve Perry banged home the second goal at the 2” minute mark giving” the Falcons a 2-0 half-tume lead The Wave grabbed back early in the second half. but were unable to draw any closer to the Valley entry. Three out of the four girls North Shore soccer teams advanced to the B.C. Youth Soccer Association Coast Division finals last week. The U18 West Van Amazons, U14 North Van United and UI3 West Van Cheetahs (last year’s champs) will play in the Sun tournament of Champions at Swangard Stadium the weekend of Apml 30 and May |. In a well matched game, the Amazons-~ midfield proved to be the deciding force in the teams 2-1 victory over the Surrey Guildford Peppers. On its first trip to the tournament, the North 'Van United squad take on defending champs Port Coquitlam Blizzard. Looking stronger than ever, the Cheetahs will try to hold on to their utle when they meet Coquitlam Blue Mountain Thunder in the fifth division finals. Cheetahs take on Coquitlam Saturday at 11:45 a.m., while North Van United go against Port Coquitlam Sunday at 11 followed by the West Van Amazons against” the Cougars of Victoma at 12:30 on Sunday.
