(1452-1519), who
conceived the _ fiying
machine and other

developments that did
not take practical form
until modern times, is
depicted in an
exhibition opening
March 13 at Presen-
tation House at 8 p.m.
and continuing = to
March 30.

The exhibition, on loan
from IBM Canada Limited.

includes 25 models built
from da Vinci's scientific
and technical drawings.

intnguing of his studies for
they represent his obstacle:
surmounting genius in its

clearest form. He devised a
parachute which is said to
have been used successfully.

Da Vinci also foresaw the

aircraft, making it the proto-

type of today’s ships’

Perhaps the most startling
of these is the armoured car,
ancestor of today's tank.

In addition to his other
amazing achievements,
Leonardo designed canals
that are still used in Italy
today, created a safer, more
efficient spindle-shaped hull
to replace the round
bottomed hull used in ships
of his time and devised an
instrument for measuring the
radius of the earth He was
the world's first
mapmaker.
