Each year’s race is billed
as drawing better com-
petition than the year
before. Six identical new
boats of the two ton size
have entered from Seattle to
add zip to the quest for
honors both in their division
and for overall rating.

Because this is an Ad-
miral’s Cup year there’s
some extra interest in the
Straits race which will see
two “candidates for the
Canadian Cup. team taking
part. West Vancouver’s John
Newton, chairman of the
Canadian Admiral’s Cup
team, has entered his 41 foot
aluminum-hulled Pachena, a
contender for a place on the
Canadian squad when the
biennial Admiral’s Cup week
goes at Cowes on England's
Isle of Wight in July.
Pachena is reportedly going
better than ever and will be
well worth watching.
