Verna Smelovsky said she had understood there would be “no strings attached” to the board request, “but there seem to be strings attached,” the re-election of the Social Credit government. School trustees had plannéd to deal with the the budget at the Tuesday meeting, but accepted the advice of Schools Superintendent Rod Wickstrom, and decided not to act on the budget until the next board ° meeting, scheduled for May 10. Wickstrom said the letter from Premier Bill Bennett to school board Chairman Chief Phillip Joe promised that School District 44 would get the funding it asked for, but Bennett declined to supply the vital documents until after the May 5 elec- tion. Trustee Dungey was sceptical of Bennett's promise of the requested funding.
