First of all, let's go back to 1966—the year Datsun first entered the North American car market. We could see then that the concept of the smaller car was an idea whose time had come. There wasnt a domestic car on the market that could touch Datsun’s unique com- bination of design, economy and price. By 1969, Datsun was the number one import in B.C. And Brasso Dutsun was the largest Datsun dealer in Canada Henning Brasso and the new Mercury Capri By the early 70's Datsun was Times are changing. So are we. selling up to 50,000 cars a year But unfortunately, because of rising inflation in Japan and the strengthening of their yen, coupled with the decline of our dollar, the cost of the Japanese Import began to increase dramatically For example in 1968 a new Datsun 510 cost $1995 - almost $1000 less than the lowest priced domestic car Today, a new Datsun 510 lists for about $2000 more than the lowest priced domestic car Clearly we couldnt continue 4ong in this direction especially against the rising popularity of the domestic compact car market It became painfully obvious to us that the Japanese Import no longer enjoyed the unique position in the car market the way it did in the past So we studied the new domestic __ cars closely and came to the con- clusion that the new North American cars offer a better dol- . lar value, and that the Ford Motor *™. Company in particular offers the... best combination of value, design and selection of models. We're particularly excited about joining Ford as they move into their massive down-sizing ° program. . Ford is taking the best of both. European and Japanese design elements to develop and produce some of the most innovative cars in the world today. Were extremely proud to be part of the Ford organization now and know that the line well be representing is ideally suited to meeting the motoring needs ol today and in years ahead.
