Leach fears lay-offs VICTORIA — Confusion over where money saved during the three-day teachers’ stnke will be spent means school boards may start laying off teachers next week. That’s the word from Joy Leach, president of the B.C. School Trustees’ Association, who said lay- off notices will be going out soon to. teachers scheduled to lose their yobs on Jan. 1. (On the North Shore, North Vancouver School District does not antici- pate having to lay off teachers until 1985. West Vancouver has not = an- nounced firm plans as yet.) Leach says if the government agrees to turn over the money saved by the strike to boards to spend as they see fit, school district can pro- bably avoid having to lay off teachers until the end of the current school year in June.
