(Terry Peters photo) Rockets over Mountaineers West Van's Northridge Rockets remained un- defeated in the young Metro League season picking up their third straight win squeaking past the North Van Mountaineers 3-1 Sunday at West Van Arena. The Rockets talhed once in each period, scoring their third goal into an empty net while playing short handed and the Mountaineers going with six attackers in the game's closing seconds. It was a clean, tight- checking game throughout, marked by some excellent goaltending at both ends of the ice and good defensive work, particularly by the Mountaineers’ Ross Wheatley. Bob Watt got the Rockets on the scoreboard midway through the opening frame Mark Ingram drawing the assists. With only 49° seconds remaining in the second period Mulvaney got what proved to be the winner, converting on a _ rebound from Watt and Jim Buhr. Only some _— superlative goaltending by the Rockets’ Randy Smith prevented the Mountaineers from turning the game around in the third period. The North Shore club, formerly known as Avalon Blues came up flat against New West Luckies and dropped a 3-1! decision in second division action. After Luckies had taken a 1-0 first half lead Kipriakis came back at the 60 minute mark to tie the match before the winner was put away 10 Minutes later on a breakaway. Ag imsurance’= marker, after a goal mouth scramble, finished the scoring. Dave Deeming, picked up the lone goal for the North Shore entry with assists going to Paul Balcucci and Don McClean. The only bright spot in the match was goalie Dick Burns stopping a penalty shot. Rob Foot and Ron Hilder both played well in a losing cause for Kipriakis. Flag ball lives If it's Sunday morning it must be time for Flag Football. For the fourth consecutive season the West Vancouver Recreation Centre sponsored Flag Football League has taken to the playing fields. This is the largest number of teams to participate in the history of the league which has grown from six to 13 teams. Co-sponsors of the league this year, the North Van- couver Recreation Com- mission, are looking after the mixed-team league and competitive football division. The 13 team recreation division is playing at Carson Graham = and Ambleside this year to accommodate all the in- terested teams. After a number of years of running a Fall and Spring Program it was decided to host a Spring Tournament in 1979. The initial tournament Saw six entries with the Rowdies going undefeated to win the Championships. This year the Tournament will run again in hopes of at- tracting entries from Prince George, Kamloops. Vernon and Vancouver Island, who also run Flag Programs.
