Ryan Dempster of the Florida Marlins was named to the NL g-Star team Wednesday by Atlanta Braves’ manager Bobby Cox. The 23-year-old native of Gibsons played for the North Shore vins prior to being drafted by the Miami-based Marlins. Dempster made his big league debut May 23, 1998 with one g of relief against the Pittsburgh Pirates. His first win came re than a month later with a six-strikeout performance against Boston Red Sox. Dempster, who was slated to start Friday night against the Sampa Bay Devil Rays, had a 9~4 record and a 3.39 ERA in 17 prts this campaign.
