Vancouver placed first in the
Grade 6 class at the Canadian
Chess Challenge ‘93 held
recently in Vancouver, Nabi's
victory qualifies him for the
B.C. Grade Championships.
The Ridgeview elementary
school student is the defen-
ding provincial champion for
his age group, and is ranked
third in the under-15  <ivi-
sion.

DIVING... West Vancouver
sisters Paige and Megan Gor-
don recently qualified for the
Dive Canada international
meet in May. Paige, 19, won
the three-metre event at the
Canadian Winter Nationals in
Calgary, putting her on the
Canadian Fina Cup team that
will travel to Beijing ext
month. Megan, 2!, qualified
for the Dive Canada meet ~-
and the Alamo meet in the
United States, with a fifth-
place finish at the Calgary
meet.

GYMNASTICS... Gymnasts
from the Flicka gymnastics
club of North Vancouver won
five of the six division titles
at the B.C. Championships
held at BCIT recently. Apar-
na Ray, 18, won the National
Open level title for the third
year in a row. Teammate Lisa
Nakano finished third in the
National Open division. Lisa
Leveille was the National
Novice champion, while Yuki
Sudo finished first overall in
the Midget Girls (10 and
under) division. In the Argo
(1I- to 12-year-olds) section
Flicka gymnasts’ Caroline
Powell, Jennifer Clarke and
Jennifer Tsakok finished one,
two, and three respectively.
Marie Shimizu captured the
Tyro Women ({i3- to 14-
year-olds) title, with team-
mate Chantelle Poon
finishing second. The next
competition for these athletes
is the Western Canadian
Championships in Regina in
two week's time.

UNIVERSITY HOCKEY...
Notre Dame secondary school
graduate Justin George
finished his sophomore
season with the Northern
Michigan Wildcats, having
scored one goal in the five
* games he played. George sat
out the first half of the
season after transferring from
Ferris State. The Wildcats
lost in the NCAA quarter-
finals by a score of 4-1 to
Boston University.
